Thorncliffe

Named after the Thorncliffe seam of the Grimesthorpe Colliery, Yorkshire, Binns' ever present Jack Russell companion was often seen patiently waiting on a bar stool at Hales pub, whilst his master trained in the nearby dales.

Having lost his father to a mining accident in that very same colliery, Binns posthumously re-fashioned Binns Senior's Coal Mine Token into Thorncliffe's collar tag. These simple brass discs were created to indicate which miners were below ground at any one time.

It was around 1960, that Thorncliffe is known to have travelled by train from Harrogate to St. Pancras, London, en route to the south of France.
